I'm on my way to the Red Pyramid—one hour south of the Giza Necropolis.

Unlike the Giza necropolis, the Red Pyramid is a lone pyramid piercing what is otherwise a blank horizon.

I've hired a private driver—he says max 20 minutes before we're off to the next site.

The entrance is situated 30 meters above the groundno easy feat under the scorching Sahara sun.

The passageway lead downwards and into the heart of the pyramid in an angle of 43 degrees and a ceiling measuring only 90 cm in height. Thus to descend, you must walk backwards facing an ever diminishing point of light—a memorable rite of passage.

There's nobody here but me—it's dead quiet. The fact that over 4 million tonnes of rocks are resting over my head produces a feeling of deep serenity inside me.
